In March of this year, Apple released a new iPad (sixth generation) 2018 model at a special conference on education. Its price is the cheapest among many iPad models and can also support Apple Pencil like iPad Pro. This is an affordable version of an iPad specially tailored for students, but some people will complain about buying an iPad for more than 2,000 yuan and a pen for more than 700 yuan. In fact, at the press conference, he also launched an entry-level stylus, “crayon” Crayon, jointly created by Logitech. Later, this pen will be released to ordinary consumers on Apple’s official website and Logitech’s official website in September. The current price on Apple’s official website is 499 yuan, and Logitech’s official website is 549 yuan, and other e-commerce platforms will continue to sell it.
Logitech specially launched the Apple pen for the new iPad, called Crayon, and Crayon stands for a crayon in English.
From the packaging point of view, its full name is Logitech Crayon digital pen because it is jointly launched with Apple. Hence, its packaging style is very Apple, pure white packaging, and the middle is the actual product picture.
The back is the basic introduction of the product: it is suitable for iPad (6th generation), and there is no introduction for other models. I wonder if iPad Pro supports it. The Logitech Crayon digital pen also uses Apple Pencil technology, characterized by a fast response, support for inclined sides, and no need for pairing. Seeing these Crayon features makes me want to experience them right away.
After reading the packaging, we unpack it and get to know it slowly. Crayon’s packaging is quite compact and substantial. Like Apple’s packaging, it uses space very well. The materials inside the packaging are the same as Apple’s and are environmentally friendly and recyclable.
Product list: Logitech Crayon digital pen, manual, warranty card, safety guide.
Crayon’s size specifications are height 163 mm, width 12 mm, and depth 8 mm. It weighs 20 grams and looks like a crayon.
The material of Crayon is divided into several parts. The nib is made of PC+ABS (can be replaced), the barrel is made of aluminum alloy, and the cap is made of soft silicone. With a light flick, you can open the lid to see its charging interface, Apple’s Lightning interface.
It is not as round as a pencil, like the Apple Pencil. Its pen barrel is flatter and thicker. With an aluminum alloy shell, it looks like a crayon full of technology. So Logitech named it “Crayon,” which means crayon.
In terms of grip, it is more comfortable than Apple Pencil and more stable to hold. It is more suitable for children’s developing fingers. Of course, adults can also handle it. It can easily take general writing and drawing. But if you want to use it to create or draw complex works, Apple’s Apple Pencil will be more flexible and lightweight, and the feeling of painting will be more real, comfortable, and natural.
Crayon is also very easy to use; no need for Bluetooth pairing like Apple Pencil. Just press and hold the power for 1-2 seconds, and the LED light will light up to use. A full charge can be used continuously for 7 hours; Apple Pencil is 12 hours. It will automatically shut down after 30 minutes if it is not used.
In terms of application usage, Crayon is fully compatible with hundreds of applications of Apple Pencil. Whether taking notes on Notability, drawing on Tayasui, or learning to write with Writing Wizard, Logitech’s Crayon makes these tasks easier and more fun. However, it should be noted that Crayon is currently only compatible with iPad 2018 models. iPad Pros are not supported.
Because Crayon is a cooperative product of Logitech and Apple, it is the same as Apple Pencil in terms of usability and fluency. It has a smart pen tip and touches accurately without delay. Lines drawn sideways will become thicker, but pressure sensitivity is not supported.
In terms of charging, Crayon can be charged directly with Apple’s data cable. It can be used for 30 minutes after charging for 2 minutes. This charging method is easier and safer than the Apple Pencil method.
Crayon’s sensitivity is almost the same as that of Apple Pencil, and its size is more suitable for children to hold. The texture of metal matte is not easy to slip, and its flat shape design can also avoid easy rolling and falling to the ground. In addition to not supporting pressure sensitivity, it is only compatible with iPad (2018 models). It’s a good alternative to the Apple Pencil and cheaper than the Apple Pencil.
